Punjab ( Amritsar )

Situated on the northwestern border of the country. Amritsar is renowned for the famous Golden Temple located here. Besides, the 400 years old city has been the seat of Sikh religion and culture from its very inception.

It is also associated with the Hindu epic Ramayana since it is said that Valmiki wrote the epic near the pool. It is also believed that Sita, the consort of Lord Rama, stayed there during her banishment.

The Baba Atal Tower was built in memory of the nine year old son of the Sikh Guru Hargobind. His son became a martyr. Another place to visit is Sikh Museum.

ISBT Sector-17, houses various services required by a visitor, including a post office, tourist office, railway booking agency, cloak room and restaurants.


PLACE OF TOURIST INTEREST

Amritsar abound in place of interest connected to the history of the Sikh faith. Amritsar, literally pool of nectar, derives its name from the holy pond made during Guru Ramdas era. The land for the pool was gifted by the Mughal Emperor Akbar, the Golden Temple built in the midst of this holy pool was gifted by the Mughal emperor Akbar.

The Golden Temple built in the midst of this holy pool by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1803 is also known as Darbar Sahib or Hari Mandir Sahib. The dome of the Temple is covered by gold leaf. The interiors of the Temple, likewise, decorated by inlay work done with semi-precious stones which have been developed into delicated floral patterns. Akal Takht or the immortal throne was established by the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind. It is seat of the supreme head of the Sikh religious authority. The Central Sikh Museum and the Jallianwala Bagh are two other interesting places to visit
